New York Fashion Week has just come to a close for yet another season, this time bringing fashionistas and fashionistos some truly unique pieces for the Spring/Summer 2017 months. Designers were moved to up the creatively quirky factor by embellishing cuts and producing striking and unique silhouettes in a variety of fine materials and fabrics, while adding complementary accessories. Others appealed to a refined taste, bringing onlookers classic pieces with clean lines and gorgeous patterns.
After a whirlwind experience, taking in the shows and fixating on each individual designer’s work in the moment, it is always enjoyable to reflect on the collections as a whole for the season and determine those which stood out as remarkable. It is not always an easy feat, seeing as all designers deserve to be praised for their efforts, yet certainly there are a handful which stood out among the rest.
Marcel Ostertag offered up some truly breathtaking and refreshing pieces that would cause any onlooker of his fabulous show to want to book a getaway immediately for the Spring/Summer 2017 season, simply for the purpose of donning some of these ensembles on vacay. The fabrics used were of both the sheer and the opaque, and hues were kept light and airy to go along with the light and airy feel of these welcome months for which these pieces are intended.
Marc Jacobs was sure to bring the crowd and lovers of his work beautiful retro-inspired pieces, such as rompers and flouncy pleated skirts as well as textured and embellished jackets to complement. Each piece has original and fun elements from colours to cuts that will surely bring some pizzazz to any buyer’s wardrobe for those 2017 spring and summer months. His accessories reminded that Jacobs always seeks to push the boundaries, by adding platform, brightly-colored and neutral footwear, which gave a futuristic feel, and dreaded hair that unified each model, while also drawing more attention to the beauty of the clothing.
Marchesa wowed with usual brilliance at the Spring/Summer 2017 runway show. Stepping away from quirky accessories and electrifying hues, Marchesa brings fashion-lovers gorgeous gowns in soft and subtle hues, yet maintains vibrant patterns for some truly standout pieces.
Of course, Michael Kors did not disappoint. The fashion guru filled the runway with pieces to suit the strong, confident and professional woman looking to make a statement. Kors offers a plethora of options to suit any occasion with his tailored jackets and floral frocks in a variety of lengths. Hues range from pastel and rosy shades to bold blues and earthy browns.
Peek-a-boo cutouts and wonderful intricacies in jeweled embellishments on stunning pieces with flattering silhouettes, remind that sexy and chic do meld. Accessories and styling suited each piece that hit the runway, as models hair was gorgeously swept to one side and then left to flow naturally. Makeup was subtle and complementary to the collection, so to allow the vibrancy and well-made pieces to be the focus.
About Kors’ show, viewers and fans were thrilled and many expressed the brilliance of the designs when chatting to the media members present at the events. Media members, themselves, also couldn’t help but be enthralled by the enticing and attractive collection. The New York Times weighed in with delight.
“Maybe sometimes a bit of unironic enthusiasm in the form of an uncomplicated outfit really is all we need. Clichés become clichés because they work. By the end of the show, every member of the very jaded fashion week audience had a helpless smile on their face. Zing went the strings of their hearts.”
Well done to all designers who brought the world their Spring/Summer 2017 collections. Filling our wardrobes will certainly be easy to do.
